VALENTINE'S DAY - SÃO VALENTIM (part III)
Good evening!
Now I want to close the matter about the origin of Valentine's day around the world. Of course there are always things to know, but I think I have made some general considerations about that date.
Today, in this finalization we will know a little about St. Valentine, and again we return to the disagreements as to the information, so do not consider as absolute truth what you will read, anyway the essence is the same. I hope you enjoy and wish everyone an excellent Valentine's day, full of celebrations.
THE STORY OF ST. VALENTINE
A tradition of obscure origin links February 14 to the feast of St. Valentine.
The origins of St. Valentine date back, possibly, to an ancient festival of ancient Rome, Lupercalia. Celebrated between February 13 and 15, these festivities served above all to attract health and general fertility, especially in the city of Rome.
These celebrations, however, were far from the Association of February 14, lovers and romance. On February 15, the day of the feast of the God of fertility, the priests, Faun or Lupercus, gathered in the” supposed " grotto of the Twins, founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus, and covered themselves with goat skin to perform animal sacrifices (goats and dogs) in order to ensure the fertility of both the soil and the women.
The priests then went out into the streets and struck the inhabitants with goat skins and in particular the pregnant women, who hoped with this, to avoid the pains of childbirth.
Why is Cupid associated with Valentine's day?
The origin of Cupid, which has become one of the great symbols of Valentine's day, also comes from greco-Roman mythology. Son of Venus, goddess of love, Cupid, represents desire and eroticism. Armed with his bow, he inflicted uncontrollable desire and passion on people struck by his arrows.
Paganism and Christianity
Since this holiday was considered pagan by the emerging Catholic Church, it was necessary to replace Lupercalia with Christian celebrations. The change seems to have occurred at the beginning of the fifth century of our era with the determination to be celebrated on February 14 the feast of the saint called Valentine.
But who was Valentine?
The Catholic saint named Valentine would have lived in the third century of our era and, according to legend, The Emperor Claudius II, decided to impose celibacy on the men of his army, in order to keep them concentrated, thus making them, better soldiers. Valentine was a priest who would have opposed this prohibition, and who would have, despite this fact, continued to carry out the marriage of soldiers who so wished. He would have been sentenced to death for his obstinacy. The romantic character of his story made him a very popular saint in the Middle Ages.
From courteous love to cards
The development of love traditions, so-called courteous (understand here as gallant words) in the Middle Ages, related to the celebrations of St. Valentine, was possibly the origin of the small romantic words now associated with this holiday.
The earliest poem directly associated with St. Valentine dates from 1415 and was written by Duke Charles D'orleans to his wife while he was a prisoner in the mythical Tower of London.
However, it was necessary to wait until the early twentieth century for the sweet handwritten words to be gradually replaced by printed cards.
Magic
If you believe or are adept at sympathies, "ties" and so on, below I will give some suggestions. Does it work? I have no idea, but some people think so.
To have the person of your dreams
Ingredients and accessories:
a goose quill
red ink
a red candle
a pinch of rosemary
a pinch of thyme
Sulfurized paper (parchment type))
Start by lighting the red candle, then mix the rosemary and thyme and place next to the candle.
Pass the goose feather on the red ink and write on the paper the following incantation:
“I ask the Great Goddess of love to make that (write the name of the person you want) fall in love with me.
I thank you for listening to my request,
You, great goddess of love.
So be it."
Note: if the Scroll is discovered, the magic will be broken.
COLORS OF LOVE
Sending flowers on Valentine's day is practically a tradition, and the most suitable flower for this occasion is the Rose, the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
See what each pink color represents and choose the color that you will gift your suitor.
Red rose: love, strength of feelings
Roses without thorns: beginning of a relationship
Pink orange: passion
Pink rose: secret love
White rose: purity, unity and humility
White pink button: heart that ignores love
Yellow Rose: I love you, but I don't know if this feeling is reciprocal.
Mossy rose: confession of love
Sympathies to consolidate a dating
Plant a seedling of with me-no-one can in a can or clay pot. Write your name and that of your future boyfriend on a piece of paper and bury it next to the potted plant. Leave the plant in a place in your home where there is plenty of sun. If you want to undo the sympathy, just take the paper and throw it in the trash. Do not forget to wash your hands thoroughly after handling with the plant, as it is toxic.
To strengthen a relationship
Buy a soap whose perfume pleases you. With the help of a toothpick, write the name of your love on it. When bathing, use the soap and focus on the music that marks your relationship. Make sure that only you will use this soap. Whenever the soap dries and the name of the beloved disappears, repeat the procedure with the toothpick until the product is finished.
To tie the heart of the one you love
In three liters of hot water, put three leaves of pitangueira (Eugenia Uniflora), three leaves of hose, three leaves of basil, three leaves of menta (Mentha Viridis), three petals of red rose, three pieces gladiolus, three leaves of White Mallow, three drops of lavender perfume and a handful of coarse salt. Let it cool and pour into your body from the neck down, thinking about the person you want to conquer. Throw the remains of the bath in the trash.
To strengthen love at a distance
Fill a basket with some dried herbs of your choice and petals of different flowers. As you fill it, say, " Remember me when distant, never turn away from my love. I hold you with me forever, as long as our love lasts, with all my heart".
Then take two dolls (it can be toy) and tie them together, heart with heart, tying them with a red ribbon and closing with three knots.
As you do this, say: " Heart with heart, mind with mind, wherever you are, our love will remind you that you will always find me in your heart forever"
So put the dolls next to your heart and repeat: "Heart with heart, mind with mind, wherever you are, our love will remind you that you will always find me in your heart forever".
Having done this, deposit the dolls in the basket, without unscrewing them, and leave the basket somewhere with water. Finally, speak: "United in love, but with free will I pray, my love, return to me. I put us floating in the eternal sea, longing and loving you".
Do you like them? If you believe, you can choose one of them and try, after all what is worth is faith isn't it? But who has some weird sympathies, it really has😉 .
